The present status of Casanova studies

1980

With an introductory note from Tom Vitelli, dated 8 March 1980: " This article, together with the French translation by Dr. Mars, is kept at the Istituto Francese di Studi Storici at Venice (Reference # D-209 C). Apparently it was never published in English. I recall notice of the French translation's publication ("État present des études casanoviennes"), but I cannot remember where I saw this notice or where the French translation was published. As to the date of composition, clues in the article suggest that it was written in the last half of 1961 (after publication of vol. 4 of Casanova Gleanings)--or perhaps 1962 to coincide with publication of the Pauvert edition of the Casanova biography. I have added a few notes to the text."
